Cystic Fibrosis, if you dont know, effects the respiratory and digestive system. Right now she has no respiratory issues at all. As far as digestive problems, CF patients cannot absorb nutrients from the pancreas into the intestines. This makes them pancreatic insufficient and they have what they call "failure to thrive". Basically they have problems gaining weight. She is pancreatic insufficient but we started addressing that from the start. She weighed 6lbs 6 oz when we brought her home 7 wks ago. She now weighs 9 lbs 4oz. Although she falls really low in her height weight percentile, as long as she is progressing within her on growth curve the docs are pleased. I maintain that the percentile ranking is irrelevant at this point. Because some babies at birth weigh what she weighs now at 7wks, so they arent comparing apples to apples. Now at 5 years old I could see the relevance and predictabilty, but not now!

Ella Kate is a typical baby. She eats, she sleeps and she poops! Ahhh the joys of parenthood!

You are correct about some babies weighing 9lbs at birth. My youngest sister was 9lb, 13oz. on her first day here.
