Phil: Tuning?

What drumheads are on yours???

I really dislike Evans for snare drum...they just don't sound good, so Remo it is for me (Coated Ambassador top/Diplomat Hazy bottom).

Word of advice from my best friend:
"Once I find a sound I like, I stay with it."

Dave's advice has proved VERY helpful to me.
Hope you have many years of playing the drum and loving it. That's a beautiful finish. Maple rocks, but Maple+Bubinga has to sound sweet!

T, I am going with Aquarian

T, I am going with Aquarian on top (satin texture coated), as I have the finest rebound with this head, and Ambassador Snare for bottom).

yes, that maple/bubinga configuration is a miracle, it sounds wonderful (just listen to Simon on FIB live, when he plays the main snare!).

PHIL: Aquarian

*lol*
"Aquarian"? I are one. (Birthday was 2/10).
JUST had to do it....lol.
ANYWAY. I think Papa Joe is an Aquarian endorsee. he's probably the first guy I know of that plays those. I wanted to see what Aquarian would sound like on the topside of this 14x6. BUT-the music shoppe here doesn't stock 'em.

Remo is the way to go for me.

OBNOTE
My buddy Dave shipped me a HUGE box full of drumheads. He plays and teaches. He set me up with that Diplomat Hazy that's on the bottom of my snare, and several Evans for toms (wish He'd sent Remos!).
He got some of these from the drum closet at the school where he works. The BEST THING outta that box?
A Remo Fiberskyn FA....14! ;-) I just put the Coated on top about August of this year and it's just NOW showing wear. Trust me when I tellya the Remo Fiberskyn is in reserve. Those are a witch to come by.

YIKES.

at long last I came to the

at long last I came to the conclusion that one has to experiment with the heads. I use an Aquarian Texture coated on The Gladiator Simon Phillips snare and I have never ever seen and felt a rebound and response like that. I tried remo on that drum, but the best I get with Aquarian here. still, there is a Remo Amba snare reso on bottom.

on another snare, the Tama artwood maple, I have an Evans CS Power Dot coated on top and it works very well with a low tuned snared.

just try things out, don't stick to just one brand.
