Theresa...

Just PM'd me. She's ok for now, they are doing storm prep! I just talked to a buddy in Lousiana and everyone there is in a panic. You can't buy gas all the stations are sold out and Walmart doesn't have any bottled water! Let's all hope they don't get slammed! It won't help our gas prices either!!!

GUSTAV: UPDATE (28 August 08) 7pm CDT

T

THANK You for helping out with this one. My DSL line continues to be a pain....up one minute, down for 30...up for 10, down for an hour. Such is life in Ruraltown, USA.

BILLIE
Heya!
GUSTAV hasn't hit us---he's still messin' with Jamaica. We are just making plans and trying to remember where the boards are for the windows, and washing laundry, etc. Standard stuff.
(You do that before a storm, no matter GUSTAV, or Katrina or Camille....whatever-it's just standard prep).

My sister thinks New Orleans is gonna get hit.
I'M STILL holidng to my 2004 "Ivan" track right up due East of MObile Bay. We shall see.

T
My Aunt's S.O. works offshore---he's home Early. Good deal. She can't make all prep alone -especially on a healing ankle that was fractured about four months back. So her beau is home helping get generators and all that.

I think the WX Channel ain't helped anybody by already ball-parking this one a Cat 3. What do they know?
They are guessing just like the rest of us.

I have Campbell's soup-at-hand (can heat that up with a candle!), and tostitos and salsa and Ritz Crackers and peanut butter and bread---I'm all good. If we HAD to grill, Dad's got enough propane to crank up ye old Charmglow and throw some Redfish on there. (Helps it not spoil!!!).

He was working with our generator to make sure it will pull the amps it needs to....
Basically we're not in panic mode yet.
Just "Prepare and Pray".

Been here before.
My LAST order of beezwax will be pulling down Zildjian Bronze and packing it up for a day or so. And since I don't have a case for the drums, I need to find a place to put 'em---probably rolled up in as many blankets as possible.
We'll SEE.
;-)

We might have power for the whole storm; we might not.
We didn't have power for 12 DAYS after Katrina 'cause everybody went to NOLA. The local power company said, "Screw that-we gotta take care of OUR OWN right here..." and he stayed. He had guys from KENTUCKY blow in and help us out.

We might be w/o power for 3 days.... you never know.

*shrug*

Louisiana, Mississippi Residents Keep Close Eye On Gustav

August 27, 2008)—Friday is the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and residents of Louisiana and Mississippi have that on their minds as they keep a close eye on Gustav.

The storm was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm after moving over Haiti but forecasters expect it to regain strength and move into the Gulf of Mexico in a few days.

Long-range forecasts say the storm could threaten the central Gulf Coast of the U.S. by Monday as a major hurricane, but they caution it's too early to identify a specific path.

New Orleans officials are making plans in case the city has to be evacuated and are advising residents who might need help evacuating are to call the city's 311 information number.

Mississippi Emergency Management Director Mike Womack is advising south Mississippi residents to have an evacuation plan in place.

Friday in New Orleans, a memorial is planned for the unclaimed dead from Hurricane Katrina.

Six mausoleums for those victims stand on what was vacant land, as New Orleans works feverishly to complete a memorial by Friday's third anniversary of the storm.

Fifty-four of the 85 bodies are identified, but some have gone unclaimed because family members have been lost in the massive relocation, or they've decided to leave burial to the coroner because they were either too poor or too estranged to do it themselves.

In true Big Easy fashion, plans call for at least seven of the dead to be marched to the site during a traditional New Orleans jazz funeral.

Trumpeter Irvin Mayfield, Jr., whose father drowned in the storm, says the city's decision to honor the forgotten victims of Katrina shows its spirit.
