My Mom has been encouraging Emily to come and play my Gretsch gear any time she wants to. I am all for it, and so...ON WEEKENDS at her cuz Cameron's house, Emily plays THIS KIT AND Zildjian 5A nylon-tipped hickory.

She comes to my Mom's, and mom will bring her over to my house, and it's all over. The kid sits down Behind this.... and picks up These or a set of Jeff's Regals, and....my beautiful 14x6 Gretsch snare takes a beating. (Hey, isn't that the name of the game???) ;-)))

-------------
ROBIN ASKED ME recently, when my playing video was gonna go 'live' over the Network.

The answer is:
"As soon as my sister can get it off her camera and uploaded to myspace or Youtube."

To quote my father:
'I'm as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs' because it's me on kick and hats, until Emily crawls off my left leg to play hat herself (feet only!). The hats are as tall as she.

Emily will be rockin' whatever drum she feels like smackin'.
I'll attempt to do what she can't (yet), namely hi-hat and kick drum. She's not TALL ENOUGH to sit at the throne herself.

So in essence, *my* playing video, will be a 30-to-60 second clip of me and Emily playing Gretsch as a team.

I do NOT apologize for *ANY* of what you'll hear. Especially tuning, as I'm still learning that. BUT, with regard to the 18-month-old young 'un... Do NOT be surprised when she puts down a brush to pick up TWO (2) STICKS IN the same hand... She's done so, and NAILED my 14FT dead-center. The kid knows NOTHING of Vinnie Colaiuta, but channels him with greater ease than I....
IF she does it (the full set of Regals in one hand), it's not because I've put her upto ANYTHING. She grabs what she wants to from my stick bag.

I'll let her sit on my leg and play whatever the heck she feels like playin---whatever the Spirit moves her to play--whatever groove we can manage. I ain't gonna sound pro. But it's me...and it's EMILY!

SHE IS ONLY 18 MONTHS OLD....
Her first ever gig/concert MY first-ever drum concert Goes LIVE as soon as her Mom can upload to myspace or Youtube. I'll post it here.

She (Emily's) cool with it.

I'm scared sh*tless!!!!!

I'm sure....

... she's gonna rock! hahaha
How much are the tickets?
That kid is going to be the next Simon in a couple of years.

YVI: The next Cindy Blackman!!!!

So, I get home from Church--change my shoes, and duck into the ladies' room to wash my hands and face for a split second--just to refresh from the events of the morning.

Mom brings Emily over, "Can we do the concert now???"
I had planned to set up chairs, etc....didn't even have time.

She did, indeed, KICK BUTT. My sister has the footage-so as SOON as Amanda gets it off her phone and onto HER computer, AND uploaded to Myspace....(her page), I'll put it here.

I am NOT making any promises except I'll keep letting this kid play as long as she has an interest in it.

I could spend several HOURS in there myself but I am mentally drained from a city band gig, during which a spring popped out from its proper place on my flute and rendered me pretty much mute for 40 minutes of rehearsal time.
A saxophone player helped me fix it.
I SO *owe* Wes Cameron dinner....a new box of reeds....it took him looking at the horn to FIND the spring in queston. ONce he re-seated the thing, I could play again and sound good.

My Organ playing SUCKED today.
I was subbing for Mom, who subbed for the piano player (Musical Chairs anybody???).

Flute playing was better-until.....

Drums was just plain FUN, bu I'm too spent/exhausted to go in there right now. For about 45 minutes today, I thought I'd be out $200.00 for flute repair, and that's $200 I currently do not possess.

Emily's 'help' on kit today was the high point.
(That, and getting a hug from a former instructor).

WHEW!!!!!

More with regard to Emily's debut as I get it.

Can't wait to see the footage T.!

YVI: That makes TWO of us!!!!!!!!!!

What's that old Shakespeare line, "The best-laid plans of mice and men....(or women)....?"

My sister has informed me that SHE CAN NOT GET THE FOOTAGE OF EMILY OFF HER PHONE CAM TO UPLOAD.

*bites tongue hard*
My digicam died the day Kaley was born.
I am NOT recording Em on kit with my phone...the audio would suck.

I wanted to see this kid throw down from the audience viewpoint.
When you're IN IT...*helping*, can't see squat. Remember, Em was sitting on my LEG while I was playing hi-hats and kick drum and ride cymbal....I was holding onto her with one arm.
I got a few licks in----probably looked like a TOTAL GOOFBALL in the process, but when you're tag-teaming.....

So....
We wait.
For BETTER TECHNOLOGY to enter the picture.
BOTH myself and my Younger sister Christy were awnting to see the footage of this child WAILING. Her MOTHER tells me it's gonna be a do-over....with a different camera.

For the record: I don't care WHAT I looked like playing---it ain't about me, it's about this KID. I've been ticked off all day knowing I haven't seen it and I OWN THE KIT!!!!!

You'd think.....
Hang in there.
When I see it?
It'll go up here....we may have to do it all over again, and that totally sucks because Emily was throwin' DOWN some stuff on snare---ghost-notes and rebound all over the place that I am having to work for.

And more consistent EIGHTH NOTES on hi-hat (feets) than I GOT.
She is already a beast.

BRILLIANT don't cut it.
And I'm related?????
WOW.
;-)
