DEE: Snake/Serpent -Healing Arts

UNITED STATES NAVY HOSPITAL CORPSMAN PIN/US NAVY NURSE PIN

My nephew just inked with the Navy. He wants to go Radiologist later (Dr. who reads xrays!). I say "go for it!".

The snake is part of the medical symbal for doctors and nurses, no matter where they are, or who they serve.

There is a reference to the Serpent on a Staff in the OT (Old Testament). Moses was commanded by God to affix a Serpent on a pole/staff of sorts and whichever of the Isrealite crowd viewed that --would be healed from disease (the exact ailment escapes me at the moment).

The imagery was repeated later (re: Christ on the Cross--and whoever looked on that and accepted the Sacrifice there, garnered unmerited favor and Grace from God).
So the image of the Serpent in the Healing Arts and in Spiritual tradition and literature and belief is EONS old.

I'd keep my distance from that one in Simon79's garden, though....he can slither the OTHER way! *lol*

Where do you leave?

This isn't a small snake......Fuck, I'm 007 but I really hate the snake......I prefer to sleep with lion and tiger, but please not snake!!!!!!!!

So if you're leaving in Borneo came to Japan we are closed!!!!!!

simon79's picture

Borneo calls Alex.....

Aahahaha.....Ok Alex I could come over there!!
But I discovered that is an innocuous snake, not poisonous, and usually it lives on water....it was there, in the garden, because there's a problem with the drought...It was only afraid....but I kept my distance from it!!!

I'm with your dog!...I'd be nervous too!

....as far as the connection between the snake and the unveiling of IVTOTO-Well....the serpent is found in the symbol of the healing arts-it appears shedding it's skin-symbolizing fertility and rebirth. Hmmm...I think your snake may have been a sign! I can see that many new and exciting things will come out of this fantastic venture-and hopefully it will go on ...and on!

Well...I was just thinking that Toto's music has healed my soul on many occasions-(re: the healing aspect)...and as far as the rebirth part-their music and influences are certainly being reborn in their fans as shown and heard through this fantastic labor of love that has been unveiled!...

Yeah...perhaps I just had a little too much time to think on this one! ;)

Anyway-Kudos!

No rattle is good!

I like snakes, love to have them in my yard so they eat the mice and rats!

We had one that lived by our front porch one time and I got a delivery from UPS, when the guy left he lept in the air about 4 ft., jumping over our snake friend yelling. I thought I would die laughing, but until you see the tail around here, you just don't know what kind it is!

That snake looks wasted. It

That snake looks wasted. It must have been out drinking the night before.

We don't get snakes in this country which is a good thing.

TRIPLE BLAH!!!

You should've picked up the paper beside the snake..lol I don't like snakes...we need them, yes! But I'm like Tanya, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THEM. Whenever I mowed the yard (when I lived in the mountains) the snakes would be in the yard and they were dumb enough to raise up to see what was coming and I'd run over them every time....I HATED IT! BLAH!!!

SNAKES in South Mississippi!

COPPERHEAD MOCCASIN: Diamond-backed like a rattler, but smaller, and will knock yo LIGHTS out if you're bitten. The smaller ones are the more poisonous.

COTTONMOUTH -Another very venomous critter, loves the water---his mouth is the colour of unpicked ripe cotton bolls....solid white. If he gets you, make your peace with God because chances are, you're a goner.

DIAMONDBACKED RATTLESNAKE

Some people eat their meat----no thanks. Rattlers sing at all times from about Mid-April to Mid-September here. They love humidity and we got it. ;-)
Their singing 'voice' come from the number of "rattles" in their tail.

My father has killed many snakes that came into our yard because little ones also come here (little kids; 2....3...6 year old). Dad will SHOOT a snake if he sees one anywhere around our house.

To keep them from being stepped on by the little kids.

Last summer, my Dad killed a rattlesnake that was
FIVE FEET LONG.

They can grow to SIX feet--- I think my little Dacshund friend "Peppi Dawg" became LUNCH for a much bigger rattlesnake a couple summers ago.

Around here? Best to watch where you step at sundown, or when fishing the ponds....I do.

NOT to is crazy!
They do serve a purpose---catching mice and rats but they can keep their distance from me and do their singing elsewhere.
