MashCast !

I did not post this to be morbid. I go to Forest Lawn Cemetery on a regular basis to ‘hang’ with Jeff.. I thought many of you in other places would appreciate seeing where Jeff is buried. His spirit is with us always but this is where his body remains. He loved Lincoln and the studies of the Civil War, so it was fitting that he be where this is honored. PLEASE, do not take this the wrong way. It is meant to be another celebration of Jeff and his legacy. I miss Jeff every day of my life and am glad that I can at least be there and sit and reflect with him. My heart will be with him forever. Loved ya’ man.....................

I'm told that Boz sang ....

I've read an account of the day. From a Drum website or a Greg Rule interview or something--somebody attended and documented the day. Possibly Greg Rule? I'm told that after the fellas got their groove on in honor of their friend, Boz broke out a tune at the committal. Amazing Grace??
The Lord's Prayer???

Who knows. That wall behind Mr. Lincoln may well have set Boz's voice RINGING......(acoustics---as close as Jeffrey rests to that wall? I don't doubt it!).

Boz has one of the best voices on this planet. Amazing Grace is my themesong...I wish I could have heard him sing that. That had to be a MOMENT.
WOW.... SERIOUSLY cool to consider.

Lee......for you who knew him in person it is one thing. I was never close to that but his drums and grooves are in my heart. I still hear his grooves when I write songs.

I think you are using the wrong tense...

CB

Yo Mr. Sklar
Jeff's presence and spirit is not gone...it is still with us only in a "formless" state. One might say you "loved" the body. However, the spirit is still with you and all of us. So, the more appropriate term (in my humble opinion) is "Love ya man".

Gone but not forgetten...living on in all who were touched by a great soul!

Raincloudmusic's picture

YO FADE! Only one word in response to your post!

"AMEN!"

(And the rest of the post is for Sklar, himself!)
------------------------------------------------------

(Hey Sklar??? Think, "Timeless"! There are some sounds and lives NEVER lose their influence! Jeffrey was one such and is one such person!).

In my heart, I know we WILL see his face again.
Something tells me that we don't have much longer to wait.
He's hangin' out with God, and those of his family that are already absent from here.
THEY'LL ALL BE BACK. He's helping Gabe with warm-up.

Be patient, man!!! ;-))

Might I encourage you with the following (which I did not compose-but these words come from one of my favorite authors of all time some several years back. Dude LOST HIS HEAD for the way he thought-and for the people he hung out with! Gotta love THAT, anywho... PAUL SEZ:

"...Yet to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." (The apostle Paul).

Paul was right. THAT cat probably heard a Roman Soldier sharpening the axe. Crucified? He got outta that because he were a Roman citizen. So they lopped off his head. With countrymen like THAT? Who needs enemies! *ha ha*

Hey! ;-))
Just because my GRANDFATHER left me on 2/13/2007 ---does NOT mean his influence, or love, or Faith has gone from my life. Same with Grandma 12/18/2001.
SAME WITH JEFFREY. I can't question God's Time.
He INVENTED it! So, I can't be that dumb and ...well.

I do have question for God...but not any so far that he has NOT ANSWERED. I get "yeah", "No..." and "...you wanna wait on that?"

(EXAMPLE: June 07; some guy put the WRONG heads on a Gretsch Maple kit. I JUST tonight put Remo Weatherking where EQ1 tops used to live. NEXT MONTH will be a year I've waited...I was finally granted the $$$ to do this. God said, "not yet; live with it!" I was able to purchase new store-bought EYES AND my Remo set (10,12,14,16 and 22!) in the SAME MONTH....and I have $ left over. That ain't easy on my budget!).

*giggling*

Leland?
I humbly submit the following:

Carry Paul's words with you always. THEY ARE VALID, and TRUE. (Trust me...I missed a trip to the Terrace to bury my Grandpa!!) Hey, man. Meetya there someday okay? And before ya think that was the LEAST BIT MORBID...*I* am gonna be a little spoiled drummer girl and tell you that *I* got a **history lesson from your visit with Jeffrey! That sign??? SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!**

Now you SERIOUSLY got me wondering what Jeff's take on "Red Badge" was! If he was THAT into Civil War discussions and history-I KNOW he'd read Crane's book.
That's probably THE deepest read other than Lez Miz and the Bible that I've ever had my paws on. NO JOKE!
So I got a shot at a few of the painting there and the sign about the statue was a JOLT!

If your friend were physically still around to participate here? I'd be asking some Civil War questions of him---AND SPECIFICALLY about "Red Badge of Courage" and what his take on that was.

It's been years since I've read that. Never forgot it. That AIN'T one for faint-of-heart or weak of tummy. It's worse than "Lord of the Flies".

Love ya, Leland!
ROCK ON!
Theresa

To share this moment with all of us, means you are a man able to share your emotions with everybody. Your voice was not the same because we think it was a very special moment for you too. Probably many of us never can visit to Jeff but with this special video you helped us to be near from his body eventough we will be near his soul forever.

Lee, Forest Lawn

I have friends which are buried there too, and I used to do exactly what you did with Jeff, just sit and reflect.

I know it isn't morbid, it just somehow makes your soul feel better.

Lee thanks for sharing your private moment with Jeff!

Lee, thanks so much for sharing that special place with us all. I was not aware of Jeff's interest in the Civil War, and it is a truly fitting setting. Quite majestic, with uninterrupted views of the hills and fields, and so peaceful. It looked like a bleak day that you visited Forest Lawn Cemetery, but I'm sure that on a clear day with the sun shining how sparkling it would be! What a wonderful resting place for such a truly gifted and warm-hearted person! I'm so glad to hear you visit regularly, and I'm sure you aren't the only one! Yes, we miss Jeff, more than he could ever know or imagine, being as humble as he was. But his love comes through each beat and lingers within our hearts. Lee we know this isn't morbid ~ you are just sharing your love of Jeff with all of us here, and we are very grateful for this!

A beautiful place, for sure. It's still weird that jeff is not with us anymore. Your voice was different than usual, Lee. It must be awkward stamding there talking to Jeff and getting no answer.

Please tell him that we all miss him tremendously.

Thanks for the clip, Lee. much appreciated. I really want to visit Jeff's grave one day. he is such source of inspiration to me.

Its hardly morbid, touching would be the word I would use. Its clear that you are as good a friend to Jeff as he was to you. never got to meet him, but its amazing everyone I know who did feels the same..

JoeG: Truer Words....

I have spoken at length with Scott and Tanya about Jeffrey and the playing and just the guy he was.

The story is always the same: That of a humble heart, beastly player who loved life, and family and fun.

That legacy won't ever fade. I'm told 1500 showed for his send-off. I will be God-Blessed if 200 show up!!!!!

I gotta steal Scott's quote:

"What a LIFE!"
Seems JP was DA MAIN man.
I'm trying (!) to talk Northwest Air into a discounted flight. I'm thinking August 11-15.
(Gotta send the Nephew off to Basic on 8/4...I ain't doing anything that day but huggin' necks. There's a Navy Sailor involved-anywho....).

Before the year's over. I'm gonna buy you that cup o 'tea.
We have to gab it up!

Hey T... August?

Hey T... Pat & I were looking into taking a trip to L.A. that same week, but our plans got changed. I talked to Tanya tonight and it sounds like the company she works for is going to be remodeling their building for nearly the entire month of August (and she'll be swamped with work) so we wouldn't be able to spend any time with her anyway. So... you might wanna touch base with her before you spend a bunch of money and waste a trip!

Raincloudmusic's picture

DUCK, T, MZ. D....T: August in LA

Gang,
On MY budget? Beggars can't be choosers. I've waited two MONTHS for new "eyes" and a YEAR for Remo Topsides on my kit.

June 13-August 17th ON Northwest Air/Mesaba from Hattiesburg to Memphis to LAX was to help my parents not have to spend $$$$$$$$$$$$ to drive me to NEW ORLEANS to catch a fight that would land in Burbank.

*shrug*
August 4th, Cameron leaves for Basic.
I gotta hang with the Kid, 'cause I won't see him 'til October after that. His kid sister gets here in July (13th).

August 11-15 would still put me at the Terrace in a Timely fashion, and allow me to chillax with y'all maybe.

MAYBE.
I wanna go as "off-peak" as I am able. IF NOT August, then FEBRUARY '09, but then there's that whol HDTV situation.
There's $1300 I have to save up for too.

The current 13 June - 17 August fare is $460.00 round trip if I lock in right now.
On my budget?
Who we kiddin'! *LOL*

HEY T? 20,000 square? YEAH; you'll be busy.
NEED an Extra set of paws??? I'm game.
;-)

Let me THINK THIS OVER. But those are some factors I'm dealing with. Uh....gimme "Time". November sounds good. T-? FEBRUARY is gonna be a bear, but we still gotta hang. I owe you a birthday marg for that Sterling!

Y'all bear with me...will let ya know ASAP.
T-keep in touch, ok? We don't want you stretched thin. I'm there already!!!!!!!
WHEW.

Oh Duck...

Got that right...depending on what happens I'll be slammed through November and hopefully not December. I do need some serious time to decorate the house for Christmas. I can't believe I just said the "C" word in May... WTF!!! Now I need to start planning my (ofice)Summer Party and my Holiday Party during the construction oh wahhhhhh hooooo!!!! Gotta love corporate America. Oh actually if we do a Winter Party later in the year maybe Luke will play this time. Not far from his house!

I am glad you were able to rearrange your plans!
