Sorry for the image quality being marginal. The original is very small from CD liner notes. With that being said, here's the info lowdown: This a pretty young Simon Phillips recording on Ray Russell's "Ready Or Not" back in 1977.
Check out the super cool Ludwig Octaplus drumkit. For those of you who are not drum geeks like me an Octaplus was comprised of eight mounted single head concert toms ranging from 6" to 16", two kick drums, snare drum and one floor tom. That's a lot of damn drums.
I would look at pictures of those, in music catalogs, for hours (during school most likely) and dream of owning one. And look at the poopy kit I wound up with. NOT!!! The Phillips isn't a bad compromise.
I'm guessing that this is the same kit, Simon may have used to record with, back in the day with Jack Bruce. The drums sound incredible, even on these now semi vintage recordings. I read a while ago Simon still has his Octaplus kit. That would be cool to hear recorded, using todays modern technology.

Simon Phillips: The man who never met a drum groove he doesn't like to screw with. And he does it so well.

Yeah; that's a lotta drums. GEEZ!
Reminds me of Bozzio's kit...if you can call it that.
YIKES!

ps: As long as the recording wasn't Pro-Tooled out; it would be interesting to hear the sonority he'd get with this thing.
