I grew up playing a Shoninger my Mom paid $100 for -it's about 100 years old and needs tuning. This video REALLY hits home.
This guy....what's he doing now, living off the interest from this tune??
I hope so. Another Touched-By-God sort. His voice and playing inspire.

I'm heading down to the pound right now...
:)~

You're killin' me over here!!!!!!
*lolol*
T

Leo,
Have been so busy today that I totally missed this addition to sklar's credits. (Heck I just got back online after TWO HOURS with no DSL connectivity whatever...).
Kadison's "Painted Desert Serenade" REMAINS my fave.
His tunes helped get me through the loss of a really sweet 4-year-old buddy pal named Lacey.
Kadison's voice is amazing, but his piano chops dwarf my own and I majored on the instrument in college and have played for 32 years.
NICE to see that Leland worked with him.
You surprised me with this listing of Joshua's work.
Grazie, amico!
T

You're welcome, T.! "Delilah Blue" has big sprawling narratives and a John/Taupin sensibility. Kadison is very gifted, both as a performer and a writer. I was not in the know about him (thanks Lee..), but he is apparently very popular in Germany yet didn't manage to crossover to Latin/Italian countries. I'm sure some of those Italian listeners who admire acts like Gavin DeGraw or Daniel Powter might get a kick out of Kadison as well.

Joshua's piano stylings to me are eerily similar to Billy Joel/Howard Jones/Hornsby.
Absolutely wide-open chord voicings, and very lyrical melocis stuff. He OWNED the Fall of 1995.
What was that one he had -I think the title track off "PDS" -every time it cued, the intro stopped me in my tracks.
You're right about the Elton/Bernie vibe.
T

Should be "Jesse".. Joel/Hornsby/Jones are no longer hitmakers in Italy, while DeGraw and Powter are, so that's the marketing goal ;) But i figure he's ok as he is, and that's just as well, because who in his right artistic mind would want to be devoured by this millennium's industry Moloch?

GRAZIE AMICO!
You got that right-I'd forgotten the title bu tthe lyrics are just the best 'program-music'/story-songs outside of Robbins gunfighter ballads.
Elton's touring...Laboriel Jr. backing him on kit.
Sir Elton is one of my faves and Billy Joel KILLS me. I have a book with some of his tunes.... "Leningrad", "the Downeaster, Alexa"... from "Storm Front".
That got me through serious bullS*** in music school. I'd ditch Haydn for Joel's stuff and we're talking SERIOUS music therapy sessions.
Ha ha.
Kadison was quite a handsome guy-but play like that and he coudl have been not so and I'd have STILL listened. He had his own thing and it was and probably still is pretty amazing to hear.
Real relaxing to listen to him, very cool.

This was one of those tunes that, sadly, got WAY over-played here in small-town Mississippi. I do remember Charlene had a nice voice though.
I didn't know Sklar was on the record!
T

Hei T., "I've Never Been To Me" was apparently recorded two times by Charlene, and does exist in an alternate version, with a slightly-changed set of lyrics (i think it was the single version). It is rather difficult to reconstruct the whole story... There's an entry on Wikipedia which is quite confusing.
Anyhow, the album version is the same that was included in the opening titles of the classic drag queen comedy movie "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert". It was a big hit. Charlene, to my ears, has perfect pitch. On this record she's a very smooth crooner, although I cannot say much about her following outings as i've yet to listen to them...
Hugs!
PS: This is one of those records where the credits do not say much, but the two bass players are indeed Lee and Wilton Felder.

Hey Leo?
"Perfect Pitch"/Absolute Pitch is a blessing and a curse to those who have it. Imagine singing next to someone with 'relative pitch' and knowing the other person was flat???
OUCH!
My flute instructor from junior-college had perfect pitch.
I have 'relative' pitch which is pretty good.....
T

She sounds perfectly in tune, but now i remember that the expression 'he/she has perfect pitch' in English possibly means that a person is capable of recognizing a note just by hearing it? I don't know that Charlene does possess this gift (nor that she actually sings perfectly in tune: to my ears she does, but it's just my ears!)
