Around 1983-84 I started a band with David called Wishful Thinking. I made three albums with them over a period of about 7 years. David was a HUGE musically creative force. I learned alot from him. Curious thing about the way David approaches playing: he can arbitrarily decide that any 16th note in a bar can be the new downbeat. It's crazy to play with but BOY is it funky! Enjoy. BTW- he still sounds great- and if you ask any of the world's most famous drummers they will undoubtedly list him as an influence.
Last night I attended the concert Tower Of Power at Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo. And I just have to say one thing: WOW! An incredible show, from a tour marking their 40th anniversary, and with a few special tunes from their upcoming record. Emilio Castillo and the rest of the horn section were really on fire. An incredible sight seeing their dancing, singing and playing their instruments for almost two hours!
Boy if we had done this now, we'd be all over the Food Network! Some of the usual cast of characters and some new faces. The housewives were the wives of famous musicians (I think one of the girls was Laurence Jubers wife &...) and they put this trio together and sang things like the Reynolds wrap blues, pretty funny. Finnigan sang his butt off...Keltner, Sklar, Andes, the TOP guys. One of my favorite bits was with Ginger Baker who made some sort of something...pancakes? I can't remember now. I just remember him having a tantrum about having an aluminum pan and being English he said it with that great accent and pronunciation! Scotty made Tenor Tuna Casserole, Brian Wilson's Surfer Chicken and looking at the crowd scene is really funny. And the announcers voice, Joe Benson from KLOS radio. What a hoot!!!
